World Beer Awards 2012: double gold for Brewery Het Anker!

Gouden Carolus Classic selected as one of the world’s best 7 beers! Double Gold for
Brewery Het Anker at the World Beer Awards 2012.

Brouwerij Het Anker from Mechelen (Belgium) wins two prestigious awards at the “World Beer Awards”(WBA). Through 4 blind tasting sessions, an international jury made a selection from about 600 beers out of 32 different countries. Just 7 beers, among which only one Belgian selection, were crowned world-wide winner (“World’s Best”) in their respective beer style category

Gouden Carolus Classic was selected as overall, world-wide winner in the “Dark Beer” category. This final winner is selected from the 9 different winners of the several sub-categories, with Gouden Carolus Classic first winning the “World’s Best Dark – Belgian Style Dubbel” award. The jury commented on the winning beer as follows: “Full, rich nose of molasses, toffee and pear drops. Powerful yet smooth. (…) Plenty of body with rich fruit flavors and a long warming finish.”

This year’s prestigious award for this officially recognized ‘Regional Product’ from Mechelen (Belgium) follows earlier medals Gouden Carolus Classic received at the World Beer Awards (2009,2010) and other international beer competitions.

Gouden Carolus Tripel, another beer brewed by Brewery Het Anker, was also awarded as winner of the sub-category “World’s Best Belgian Style Tripel”. The jury praised the complex aroma and excellent taste balance of this gold yellow specialty beer.

Brewery Het Anker is a 5th generation family brewery at the heart of the Grand Béguinage of Mechelen,which is a recognized UNESCO world heritage site. At this unique location, beer is being brewed since the Middle Ages (1471). Emperor Charles V, who grew up in Mechelen, even had his favorite brew delivered to Spain when he lived there. The brand name “Gouden Carolus” is a reference to the gold coins used during his reign.

Carolus Cuvee-比利時 國王啤酒

西元1369年比利時屬於西班牙帝國的殖民地。為了紀念西班牙皇帝查理十

五世的生日，每年2月24日這一天，酒廠便召集許多村民一同參與「國王啤酒」的製造過程，因此這一款啤酒就被王侯當成獻禮進貢給西班牙王室。

Cuvee的酒精濃度依當年的氣候 (濕度，溫度等) 影響略有差異，750毫升玻璃瓶裝，以軟木塞封瓶，如紅酒一般地平躺式收藏，建議十年後飲用，風味與口感最! (瓶底沉澱物及年份越久顏色越深皆為正常,國王啤酒越陳年口感越好)

每年僅僅生產一日(02/24)的「國王啤酒」，瓶身上找不到裝瓶日期與有效期限，僅在瓶口下緣貼著製造年份的環形標籤。更重要的是數量有限，每次產量僅近萬支，使得世界各地的愛好者爭先恐後地前來預約與搶購。因為限量，在一般商店與量販店更是絕對看不到它的蹤跡。
